The Vibe Coding Essentials course is a beginner-level intensive designed to introduce students and recent school leavers to the future of building software through AI.

You will learn how modern applications are created, how to communicate effectively with AI coding assistants, and how to transform ideas into working digital products. Unlike traditional coding courses that start with complex programming concepts, this course focuses on learning by building. You will use AI-powered development tools to plan, create, test, improve, and launch your own application while developing foundational software engineering skills.

By the end of the course, you will have built and deployed a project you can showcase, giving you your first step into the world of technology.

Onboarding session to orient participants to Moringa School’s learning environment, ensure they are fully set up with the required platforms and tools, and establish a foundation for successful engagement in the course.

Objective: Understand AI fundamentals, evolution, and how generative AI works. Gain proficiency in ChatGPT basics, prompt strategies, and responsible AI use.

Content:

  • What vibe coding is and how it differs from traditional programming.
  • Why Lovable: how it fits into a broader landscape of AI coding tools and why it is the right starting point for this course.
  • Set up your AI workspace environment: Lovable.
  • Web app vs. mobile app: What each is, how each is built, and which suits your idea.
  • How to write a good prompt: user, purpose, style, and feature context.
  • The core vibe coding loop: describe → review → adjust → repeat.
  • Run your first prompt, review the output, and save your first AI-generated project.
  • Kenya’s tech ecosystem and the career paths this way of working unlocks.
  • Introduce the Vibe Coding Code of Conduct: a one-page three-principle checklist (build honestly, stay in control, share responsibly) that learners keep for the week and that anchors all responsible AI content across Day 1 and Day 2.

Daily Project: Learners will use AI to build a personal portfolio page that introduces who they are, what they are studying or interested in, and what they want to create. This will serve as their digital identity throughout the course and beyond.

Objective: Learn to read, evaluate, debug, and improve AI output with confidence and responsibility.

Content:

  • Break a project idea into MVP features and user stories before building.
  • Ask AI to explain what it just created; never copy output you do not understand.
  • Spot AI assumptions, logic gaps, and visual bugs in generated output.
  • Feed error messages back to AI and get plain-English fixes.
  • Know when to accept output, tweak it, or start the conversation over.
  • Iterate professionally: refine and redirect across multiple rounds.
  • Responsible AI use: what not to share, how to stay honest, how to stay in control.

Daily Project: Learners will build an opportunity tracker for student life in Kenya, a simple tool to log internships, part-time jobs, freelance gigs, and side hustle ideas they want to pursue, with fields for status (interested, applied, heard back), deadline, and notes. This project focuses on understanding and improving AI-generated logic.

Objective: Build a multi-feature app using Lovable’s built-in data tools and Supabase for persistence, test thoroughly, and polish the experience.

Content:

  • Build one feature at a time and test before moving to the next.
  • Generate professional UIs via natural language prompts.
  • Prompt for responsive, mobile-friendly layouts, animations, and visual polish.
  • Use Lovable’s built-in data features and connect to Supabase for data persistence, so your app retains entries across sessions.
  • Test scenarios by describing them to AI; break things deliberately to understand them.
  • Build a mental model of how your app’s pieces connect to each other.
  • Set up Supabase using Lovable’s guided integration.

Daily Project: Learners will build a multi-feature app relevant to their daily life as a student or recent school leaver, either a campus events and notice board app for their institution or a simple entry-level job and internship finder focused on the Kenyan market. This is their most complex and personally useful build yet.

Objective: Deploy a live project, set up your GitHub portfolio, and plan and begin your capstone project.

Content:

  • Why version control matters: even when AI is doing the building.
  • Create your GitHub account, repository, and first commit.
  • Deploy your Day 3 project live using Netlify.
  • How AI is reshaping tech careers locally and globally.
  • Kenya’s tech ecosystem: startups, corporates, and freelancers.
  • Choosing your next step: Intro to SE.

Capstone Kickoff: Introduced Today

The capstone brief is introduced at the end of Day 3 so learners can think overnight before committing to a project. On Day 4, learners confirm their chosen idea, write a problem statement, and begin building. Day 5 morning is protected build and polish time; presentations begin in the afternoon only. Ideas might include a side hustle landing page, a study group organizer, a local business tool, a mental health check-in app, or anything else that is genuinely useful to them or people they know. Learners will complete and present their capstone on Day 5.

Objective: Complete, polish, and present your capstone project. Demonstrate what you built and celebrate your progress.

Content:

  • Final iteration: fix remaining issues, confirm the app is live and shareable.
  • Clean up your GitHub repository and write a portfolio-ready project description.
  • Structure your presentation: problem, solution, build process, key decisions, lessons learned.
  • Deliver your live capstone presentation, including a working demo.
  • Receive structured feedback from peers and facilitators.
  • Set a personal commitment: one thing you will build or learn in the next 30 days.
